The Montana longbow was first introduced in the late 90s and has become a very popular addition to an already proven lineup. The bow's slightly reflexed design, tapered limb lamination, and new slimmer tips make this longbow big on performance and value.

40lbs Bear Montana - An ok bow, not sure it's worth the price though

I've shot about 250 arrows or so with this bow since its purchase a few months ago. In a nutshell, I think the Montana is a nice American longbow that performs adequately, but I'm not convinced that it's necessarily worth the price tag. Without getting in too many details, I own 2 other similar bows, namely the very cheap PSE Terra, and the sometimes maligned SAS Pioneer. Both bows are easily the equal of the Montana in terms of performance, at less than 1/2 the price. The Montana is very 'twangy', even when shooting heavier wood arrows, and using string silencers. And while the accompanying vibration is not bad, it exists. The sound and vibration levels on the Terra and Pioneer are non-existent on my setups. As for the fit and finish, the Montana is perhaps a little bit nicer, with the Bear medallion and with somewhat nicer wood. But as MANY reviewers have noted, the leather handle is cheap. It is comfortable for me, but I can see having to eventually remove it. It won't last. The similarly cheap leather arrow rest is also a weird choice, especially coming from a company that MAKES its own, much better, hair rests. Why not just put that on the bow? Finally, the string is ok, but cheap. Again, not a huge deal, but with the price point of the Montana, you'd expect better. Overall, I'm glad I have it for the collection, and it is currently the bow I shoot on a regular basis. It shoots quite well, and there are no -major- issues with the product. Just know going in that if you are an avid American LB shooter, it might actually be better to save up that money to work your budget up to a Northern Mist, Dwyer, or Yellowstone bow.

The Bow

What a great longbow, mine is 60#. It’s smooth accurate and fun to shoot with. As an other tradbow it’s pretty quick to tune and when you find the perfect arrow spines who’s match with it, the deal is done. For target shooting or for hunting that’s my favourite one. I used a recurve for the last 10 years…..but that longbow is a game changer. I know it is not a customs expensive bow, but for a factory one and at that price I’m in business. Of course it a Bear product so just the name is the warranty.

Great bow

So I’ve been shooting longbows for about 3 years now. This is my favourite one so far.

I’ve own both OMP Ozark and Sierra, the Oakridge longbow, and previously owned the Bear Au Sable (which is “better” than the Montana)

I actually sold
My au sable to buy the Montana, and I’m far from disappointed.

Very light and snappy bow. The 50 lb draw is smooth and crisp.

Make sure you check your brace height with this one, I assumed it was around 6.5” - I ended up with a nice watermelon on my forearm.

This is a bow for life.

Customer service from this company is top notch, by the way. You will not be disappointed buying anything from them!

Special orders receive top priority and are given prompt attention. While larger items like bows may not always be readily available, many special order items are consistently kept in stock. The general turnaround time for special orders is a minimum of 8 weeks, depending on the lead times set by the manufacturer.

Certain bows, such as custom target bows and high-quality traditional recurve bows, are exclusively made to order directly from the manufacturer.

In some instances, left-handed products like premium target equipment may experience unforeseen delays due to batch production by the manufacturer.

We strive to meet the deadlines mentioned above and make every effort to do so. However, there may be circumstances beyond our control that prevent us from meeting those deadlines. If such a situation arises, we will make every effort to rectify the issue. Special orders can be canceled or exchanged and are eligible for a refund after 8 weeks.
