E.T. Seton Park temporary closure and information from Metrolinx

The E.T. Seton Park Archery Range will be temporarily closed beginning as early as July 6, 2026, to allow Metrolinx crews to construct a temporary access road supporting the Ontario Line subway project.

The closure is expected to last approximately four weeks, with the range scheduled to reopen by July 31, 2026, once the required work and target reconfiguration are complete.

Why is the range closing?

As part of the Ontario Line project, Metrolinx is building an elevated guideway near Don Mills Road and Gateway Boulevard. Construction crews require temporary access roads to reach three future guideway pier locations. Due to the steep terrain, one of these access roads must pass through the southern end of the E.T. Seton Park Archery Range.

What changes are being made?

Before reopening, the archery range will undergo several temporary modifications to ensure it remains safe during nearby construction:

  • Archery targets will be relocated farther east and reoriented away from the construction zone.

  • Wood chips will be installed at each shooting lane to reduce mud and standing water.

  • New signage will guide archers through the revised shooting lane layout.

  • Temporary construction hoarding and fencing will be installed along Gateway Boulevard to provide additional protection.

  • A dedicated pedestrian pathway will be created to safely separate visitors from active shooting lanes.

Once these changes are complete, the range is expected to reopen for public use while construction continues nearby.

What to expect during construction

Construction activities will include:

  • Excavation and grading of the site.

  • Soil stabilization and erosion control.

  • Delivery of gravel and heavy construction equipment.

  • Installation of temporary fencing, hoarding, and access gates.

  • Increased truck traffic entering from Don Mills Road and Gateway Boulevard.

  • Construction noise during weekday work hours (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.).

  • Temporary traffic and pedestrian interruptions as equipment moves in and out of the site.

Weather or unforeseen conditions could affect the construction schedule.

Long-term timeline

  • July 6–31, 2026 (approx.): Temporary closure of the archery range.

  • December 2026: Construction of the temporary access roads is expected to be complete.

  • Late 2029: The temporary access roads will remain in place until the Ontario Line elevated guideway is completed. Afterward, the temporary road will be removed, and the affected parkland will be restored with topsoil and grass.

What this means for archers

While the temporary closure may be inconvenient, the improvements are designed to allow the E.T. Seton Park Archery Range to safely reopen while major Ontario Line construction continues nearby. Archers should expect a revised range layout, relocated targets, and new safety measures for the duration of the project.

Anyone planning to visit the range should be aware of the temporary changes and follow all posted signage and safety instructions once the facility reopens.
